The Department of Administrative and Financial Services (DAFS), Office of Information Technology (OIT) provides a wide-range of technological services to over 13,000 state employees and the agencies for which they serve. The selected candidate will be assigned to the Application Performance Testing Team, which is one of several teams within OIT’s Applications Development Division. The Application Performance Testing Team provides automated testing services for all State of Maine computer applications.
ABOUT THE JOB
This engaging work provides advanced technical services involving the analysis, design, and implementation of complex application performance tests. You will be responsible for ensuring performance tests are created and performed on applications in support of scheduled releases. You will coordinate with multiple OIT support teams to capture and evaluate all performance statistics. Duties will also include providing system administration services in support and maintenance of the automated testing software tools, which include MicroFocus Load Runner and MicroFocus Performance Center.
Employees in this classification are expected to serve as technical advisors to other IT staff, as well as providing technical support to end users. Work is performed under limited supervision. Interpersonal, communications, and team building skills are critical in this role. The position is in Augusta.
WHAT WILL YOU DO?
You will work closely with business users, OIT development staff, and other OIT areas to test applications’ ability to perform satisfactorily under predetermined user loads.
Work with business and OIT development staff to define testing needs
Formulate and define test cases and objectives to meet those needs
Design and develop performance tests
Coordinate with other technology departments (networking, database, server, etc.) to ensure the collection of performance statistics from all related components being tested
Conduct testing using automated testing software
Review all test results against business-stated performance requirements for compliance
Coordinate all testing activities performed by the Application Performance Testing team, including the assignment of tests to other team members.
Perform system administration, including access control and applying software updates, to the automated testing systems.
Knowledge of automated testing processes and the tools used to perform them.
Possess strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to write clearly and effectively at a level appropriate to the target audience, which will include business users, senior business managers, project managers, and all levels of IT support and management
Ability to work as a member of a team consisting of onsite, remote, and offshore technical resources
Must be comfortable working directly with end-user community to capture, refine, and verify testing requirements, translate those requirements into test scenarios, and implement them into application processes.
Experience reading, analyzing, and constructing test scripts.
A five (5) year combination of higher-level programming and systems analysis and design experience, including two (2) years at the Programmer Analyst level or equivalent. A Masters’ Degree from an accredited educational institution in Computer Science may be substituted for one (1) year of programming experience.

SALARY: CLASS CODE: 0866 PAY GRADE: 27 – $53,726.40 - $72,924.80 annually*
*Includes a 15% recruitment and retention salary adjustment and eligibility for a 5% annual training bonus.
The value of State’s share of Employee’s Retirement: 15.37% of salary for BU positions. The value of State-paid Dental Insurance: $13.13 biweekly. The value* of State-paid Health Insurance:
Level 1: 100% State Contribution (employee pays nothing): $444.68 biweekly
Level 2: 95% State Contribution (employee pays 5%): $422.45 biweekly
Level 3: 90% State Contribution (employee pays 10%): $400.21 biweekly
Level 4: 85% State Contribution (employee pays 15%): $377.98 biweekly
*The level of the actual value of state paid Health Insurance will be based on the employee’s wage rate and status with regard to the health credit premium program.
